I was about ten when my dad took me on Dueling Dragons. I had always been afraid of roller coasters, but I got on anyway.
The fear became part of the thrill. I got off wanting to ride again.
I’ve carried that lesson with me. Many of the best things I’ve done first felt like rides I wasn’t sure I could handle: the job, the hard decision, putting my writing into the world.
So, Lettie and Emmett: fear doesn’t always mean turn back. Sometimes it means you’re standing at the entrance to something worth doing.
